These two religious monuments deserve at least a day of your Indonesia holiday each, Prambanan, in its prime, was almost a city of smaller temples and religious buildings, and though many of them remain only as ruins there's still a lot to see. The Telaga Warna Colour Lake and Sikidang Crater are a drive out of town towards Dieng Plateau if you'd be interested in seeing another Hindu temple complex, and one of the best surfing spots in Indonesia, G-Land at the tip of east java is also reached by jungle trek out of Yogyakarta.

If you have more time for your Indonesia holiday, travel overland from Jakarta to Yogyakarta via Bandung for the Bogor Botanical Gardens, tea plantations, the Lembang Fruit market and the Tangkuban Perahu Volcano and Ciater Hotspring. From Yogyakarta heading further inland leads into the heavy teak forests and moist rice paddies, and eventually to Mount Penanjakan, which is said to have one of the most beautiful sunrise displays in the world. If you make it up for the sunrise you should continue on, over an unusually placed sand sea, to Bromo Volcano. From there Surabaya Airport is a few hours drive and from there you can catch a flight to Denpasar, Bali.

The Sikuai island is a popular tourist destination in West Sumatera, Indonesia.
It is a wonderfull island with white sandy beach, and warm tropical weather all year round, Sikuai island is about ± 23 KM up to the south of Padang city, which is at Bungus bay.

To go to Sikuai island, you can start at teluk kabung pier, then take a motor boat cross the sea into the Sikuai island, or from wisata-bahari-pier/ dermaga-wisata-bahari at muara-port/ pelabuhan-muara, Padang, about 20 minutes by speedboat and 60 minutes by boat into Sikuai island.

If depart to Sikuai Island from Dermaga Wisata Bahari Padang. We can take the boat that departs from the port at 10 AM or 2 PM daily.

There is a resort in Sikuai island, total area about ± 44.4 Ha, with amount of cottages, a restaurant, conference hall, swimming pool and also a jogging track circling the island, and of course the access to diving or snorkeling, and other activities on the sea surrounding the Sikuai island.
The cottages are made of wood. Each cottage has two separated bedrooms, without connecting door. Each bedroom has private balcony where we can sit and enjoy the view. Inside the cottage, there is bathroom with shower, TV, refrigerator, and AC.

The bedroom is simple but clean. The light is dim so makes the room look smaller. There is no telephone in the bedroom.

With the tropical atmosphere and relaxing and enjoy your private moments, beach walking, swimming, snorkeling etc away from your daily routine activities. There is jogging track around the island where we can walk or cycle.

In the afternoon you will see an exotic sunset from the Sikuai beach or from the top of Sikuai hill just a stroll away. We can watch the sunset from the top of the hill. From there, we also can see other small islands around Sikuai.
The island has white beach and clear water. We can play at the beach, snorkle, or sunbathe. If we want to snorkle, the reef is only short distance away from the beach resort.

On the weekend the island is more lively with day-tripper visitors from Padang city, on the other workdays visitors can have the beach for him or herself,,, its totally a tropical island bliss.

Gili Meno has a population of about 300 locals. The interior of the island is mostly a palm trees surrounded by grass which is kept neat by cows munching lazily in the shade. There are no cars or motorbikes on the island, all transport is by horse-drawn carts or on foot. The diving was pretty good, with quite a strong current but that incredible swimming-pool visibility that you get on good days off the islands in SE Asia. The relaxed pace of life and the community feeling on the island is really special. In Gili Meno, where fresh water is shipped from Lombok, eco-friendly practices are not an option. It is a necessity.

In the town of Narmada, the same king built a temple on a hill as a replica of Mount Rinjani, an ancient pilgrimage site. On days leading up to a full moon, the temple in the palace is festooned with garlands of flowers and baskets of fruit offerings.

Yet Lombok's culture is also distinct from Bali's, and is the product of a complex cultural mixing.
Islam arrived here in the 16th century and over time the dominant ethnic group -- the Sasaks, who today make up 85% of the population -- became Muslim.
But as in many parts of Indonesia, orthodox teachings were only partially embraced. The mountain village of Bayan, in the northern part of the island, is the center of Wetu Telu, a religion that blends elements of Muslim, Hindu and animist beliefs. Followers pray three times a day, instead of Islam's standard five.

Mount Rinjani is the spiritual heart of Lombok's animist traditions. It is also the place where Alfred Russel Wallace, the noted Victorian explorer and naturalist, observed the differences between bird species on Bali and on Lombok. He later identified the Wallace Line, which runs between the islands and divides Indonesia into two distinct parts: one where the birds and animals are more closely related to those found in Asia and the other to those in Australasia.

Lombok's potential has been touted before and never come to much. Some people in the travel business here fear the global economic recession could thwart the island's latest ambitions once again. Every time Lombok is ready to take off, something happened

The area did well for a while but the Asian financial crisis in 1997-98, followed by the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings and another attack on a Bali beach in 2005, had a devastating effect on Lombok's tourism industry.

Lombok's new wave of resorts marks the latest attempt by the island to become a serious tourist draw. Like travel destinations throughout the region, Lombok has battled to overcome a series of setbacks, including the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s and terrorist attacks in Bali a few years ago. Despite new challenges on the horizon, including a global recession, locals here are hoping that a major investment from a Middle Eastern developer, combined with Westerners' desires for less expensive resort alternatives in the area, will finally put Lombok on the tourist map.

Earlier this year, the U.S. lifted its travel warnings on the country, and travelers and expats here say they feel perfectly safe.

But the difficulty of getting to Lombok has continued to stunt its growth. While many international airlines fly direct to Bali, Lombok has only a few flights a week from Singapore. The usual route to the island is a short hop from Bali in a twin-prop plane, but since mid-2007, the European Union has banned EU-based tour operators from selling Indonesian domestic flights, after a series of deadly crashes in the archipelago in recent years.

None of those incidents involved the private operators who run flights between Bali and Lombok, however. And Indonesia has taken serious steps to improve its overall air-safety record in the past year, raising hopes that the EU ban soon will be lifted. In the meantime, many tourists buy tickets directly from Indonesian travel agents to work around the EU ban.

The Indonesian government also constructing a new modern airport only 20 minutes from the planned tourist resort development. Roads are being upgraded across the island as well.

march 24-09 An Indonesian fisherman has been killed by Komodo dragons after he was attacked while trespassing on a remote island in search of fruit, officials said Tuesday.

Muhamad Anwar, 32, bled to death on his way to hospital after being mauled by the reptiles at Loh Sriaya, in eastern Indonesia's Komodo National Park, the park's general manager Fransiskus Harum told CNN.

"The fisherman was inside the park when he went looking for sugar-apples. The area was forbidden for people to enter as there are a lot of wild dragons," Harum said.

Other fisherman took Anwar to a clinic on nearby Flores Island, east of Bali, but he was declared dead on arrival, he added.

Komodo dragons, the world's heaviest lizards, can grow up to 3 meters (10 feet) in length and have a toxic bite that they use to kill prey such as buffalo, returning to feast when the animal succumbs to the poison.

Despite their ungainly appearance, the carnivorous reptiles can run as fast as a dog in short bursts, jump up on their hind legs, and kill animals with a blow of their powerful tails.

Attacks on humans are rare, but Monday's incident is the latest in a series in which the monster lizards -- which have forked tongues and fearsome claws --have killed or injured people.

Last month a park ranger survived after a Komodo dragon climbed the ladder into his hut and savaged his hand and foot. In 2007 an eight-year-old boy died after being mauled.

Divers battled Komodo dragon before rescue

In June last year, a group of divers who were stranded on an island in the national park -- the dragons' only natural habitat -- had to fend off several attacks from the reptiles before they were rescued.

Park rangers also tell the cautionary tale of a Swiss tourist who vanished leaving nothing but a pair of spectacles and a camera after an encounter with the dragons several years ago.

An endangered species, Komodo are believed to number less than 4,000 in the wild. Access to their habitat is restricted, but tourists can get permits to see them in the wild within the National Park.

All visitors are accompanied by rangers, about 70 of whom are deployed across the park's 60,000 hectares of vegetation and 120,000 hectares of ocean.

Despite a threat of poachers, Komodo dragon numbers are believed to have stabilized in recent years, bolstered by successful breeding campaigns in captivity.

On Monday, a zoo in Surabaya on the Indonesian island of Java reported the arrival of 32 newborn Komodos after the babies all hatched in the past two weeks, the Jakarta Post reported.

Flores came under Dutch influence c.1618. The Dutch gradually gained control of the island, although Portugal held the eastern end until 1851 and the natives were not completely subjugated until 1907.

Divided by mountain chains and volcanoes, the island populated by ethnic groups with their own traditions and languages.
Many people still follow their old ways, by living in traditional villages and placing food offerings on megalithic stones, to appease their ancestor.

In the mountains, around Bajawa, the Ngada people still follow the law laid down by their ancestors. The Ngadanese are divided into set, clans, that have head chiefs and elders who decide over matters such as land-rights, funerals, marriages and other ceremonies.

The area Lio, Mt. Kelimutu, has a legend about four brothers who migrated from Java and formed the first Lio clans. All clan that live and form the same area, elect lords and chiefs to decide over community matters. Each clan owns a clan house where the bones of important ancestors are kept, and rituals are held. The Lio village is a cluster of houses with large high steep roofs erected around sacred stones, and megalithic.
Weaving

Women throughout Flores still hand-weave their textiles using natural dyes and handspun cotton, known as Ikat weaving. Flores textiles are rustic in color with abstract motifs of chickens, mountains and traditional houses. Some weaving areas are, Pagal around Ruteng, Wolotopo, Nggela in Ende region and Sikka nearby Maumere.

Set high among the mountains in the middle of Flores island is Mt. Kelimutu with its three volcanic craters, each with it's own colored lake. Most visitor make an early start to reach the summit and see the sunrise, which through its rays reveals the true colors of the lakes.

Local believe the colors are influenced by the kind of spirits that dwell in them.

Mt. Kelimutu, 1.690m fifty years ago, had three lakes, one lake was blue green, one fiery green and one red. Thirty years later, the colors had changed to blue, red brown and cafe au lait.
Now, Ata Bupu (Lake) is a dramatic dark-brown. Ata Polo are dark red-brown, and only Nuwa Muri remains aquamarine or turquoise as it apparently always was.
No one can explain the cause of such color changes except to suppose that different minerals are dissolved in the waters of each lake.

The countryside surrounding the lake, though no longer so "natural" as in the days of early Dutch visitors - some hundred years ago - is still mountainous and dramatic enough with panoramic views all side.

The island of Lombok is located east of Bali island and can be easily accessed by air or by sea. Tourism is not quite as developed yet as Bali and it is that reason which makes Lombok the perfect getaway.

Ulun come from Hulu word meaning head or power, what is in this case intended by Ulun Danu Beratan is power of Beratan Lake that is Danu Goddess (Dewi Danu).

This very importance Hindu Buddhist temple was founded in the 17th century, It is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the waters and is actually built on small islands, which means it is completely surrounded by the lake. Both pilgrimages and ceremonies are held here to ensure that there is a supply of water for farmers all over Bali. The temple is truly beautiful, with classical Hindu thatch-roofed Meru (Multiroofed Shrines) reflected in the water and silhouetted against the often cloudy mountain backdrop-one of the commonest photographic images of Bali.

Balinese temple at Uluwatu

Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali's six directional temples (Sad Kahyangan) and Uluwatu's only site of significance. More remarkable than the temple itself is its location, perched on a steep cliff 70 meters above the roaring ocean waves. There are more steep headlands on either side, and sunsets over Uluwatu are a sight to behold.

The temple was first used for worship by the holy 11th century priest, Empu Kuturan, who came to Bali to bring religious law and to form Desa Adat (traditional villages). Filled with the scent of frangipani blossoms and is also the home of friendly monkeys. Balinese people beleives the temple can guards Bali from evil spirits from the South West, in which dwell major deities, in Uluwatu's case; Bhatara Rudra, God of the elements and of cosmic force majeures.

Uluwatu mean the head of stone. Uluwatu lies at the southern tip of Bali in Badung Regency. Dedicated to the spirits of the sea, the famous Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple is an architectural wonder in black coral rock, beautifully designed with spectacular views.

Tanah Lot Temple or Pura Tanah Lot located in Village of Beraban belong to Tabanan Regency, on the coast of West Bali. It's located 16 kilometers west of International Airport Ngurah Rai, around 20 minutes drive through Sunset Road or 13 kilometers from the capital city of Tabanan. Tanah Lot Temple is one of famous place of interest in Bali.

Pura Tanah Lot was founded around 15 - 16th century by Danghyang Niratha or Pedanda Sakti Bawu Rawuh, the Hindu Priest from Majapahit Kingdom in East Java. Tanah Lot in Balinese mean Tanah Laut or the land over the sea. The temple itself is built on a small promontory which is only accessible at low tide. During high water the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape.

Near this Temple there are several small and big shrines, the biggest one is Pekendungan Temple. There is a spring considered sacred not far from this temple. It looks like a floating one if the tide is high. There are many caves under the temple lived by the peaceful sea snakes, which has white and black colors.

Watching the sunset at Tanah Lot is superb, wonderful experience.

The hotels in this area are usually small to mid size, locally owned and managed properties.
Hotels in this area tend to be a bit more expensive than their counter parts hotel Melati type in Kuta.

It is worth to venture the island to other wellknown spot as well such as Sanur beach, Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, Lovina beach, Beratan lake, Ubud the artis community and lots other cultural activities.
Other choice we can take a boat to Lombok island to the east, another popular destination in Indonesia.
In fact I enjoyed my visit to Bali with enchantment.

Legian in local language means sweet as in candy, delightful to the senses, so its my stay in Bali.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp's MySpace, the world's largest social network Web site, said it has formed an online music venture with three major recording companies in a challenge to Apple Inc's dominant iTunes Music Store.

Vivendi's Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group have minority stakes in the new MySpace Music venture announced on Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

MySpace Music will offer free music and video streaming supported by advertising, paid-for MP3 downloads, ringtones for cell phones, concert ticket sales and merchandise.

Chris De Wolfe, chief executive of MySpace, said the launch date of the new service was "fluid" with commercial features being added to the site over the next three to four months. He said MySpace is in talks with more music industry partners to offer their services on MySpace Music.

"We're talking to all the big ticketing companies as well as the small ones," De Wolfe told Reuters in an interview. He declined comment on EMI, the fourth big music company, which is not in the initial deal.

MySpace will integrate its 5 million artist profile pages with a range of new commercial services in a "360-degree" offering for the 30 million music fans who use the site.

While the online teen hangout has been wildly popular with both music fans and artists, its main role has been promotional until now.

"It goes from being a promotional vehicle to being a commercial vehicle," MySpace Chief Operating Officer Amit Kapur said on a conference call to announce the venture.

MySpace Music is seen as a potential rival to iTunes, which takes more than 70 percent of digital download sales.

The music industry, concerned about the influence iTunes wields in the digital market, wants to develop MySpace Music into a strong competitor.

"This gives a great new lease of life for the download market," said Thomas Hesse, Sony BMG president of global digital business, in an interview with Reuters.

Sony BMG is jointly owned by Sony Corp and German media group Bertelsmann AG.

He said MySpace Music could eventually offer a "premium subscription" service, but gave no details and said it was up to MySpace to make that decision.

Forrester Research analyst James McQuivey said MySpace Music was the right step for music companies, but noted, "Apple will not be affected for the first few years because Apple's iTunes store lives on the strength of Apple's devices."

He added, "One implication of this is that Apple may decide to improve its store experience, but I don't honestly see it trying to compete as a social network."

For MySpace, it was important that the songs not be locked with copy protection software, known as digital rights management, which prevent songs bought by fans from being played on different devices. Kapur said songs bought on MySpace Music should be "very portable" and work on Apple's iPod and other devices.

The deal was agreed late on Wednesday after Universal Music agreed to settle a 2006 copyright infringement lawsuit against MySpace. A source familiar with the negotiations said MySpace had agreed to pay Universal as much as $100 million to settle.

De Wolfe said MySpace is currently seeking a chief executive or president for MySpace Music. A source close to one of the music partners told Reuters if MySpace Music is successful it could be spun-off as a stand-alone company.
